i shot a squirrel with a 270 once.it was a straight on shot right between the shoulders.the bullet (130gr.) went through him and hit the tree he was climbing up. their was very little damage to him other then a hole between his shoulders that was a little bigger then necessary.i have also shot a few with the 22-250,and those ones really came apart.
It would just piss him off, and that's the last thing you want to do. I'd go with something in the .30 cal range, preferably a magnum.
