Spotted a feral cat yesterday carrying a dead squirrel in its mouth. Q: Is, what type of cat???

My place in Bonny Doon, Santa Cruz County, CA lies at 2,700'; elev. The cat had pointed, tufted ears, huge paws, a tail ca. 5 inches long, coloration brown with encircling black body stripes. Weight est. at 25 lbs. or more. Is it a bobcat or lynx? Do they have differing terrains in which they're found? If so, what are they???

Thanks.

Most likely a Bobcat. The tail being 5'; and the body is more spotted than a Lynx. Also, Lynx tend to habitat northern forests, swamps and even Tundra. Whereas the Bobcat habitats canyon country, chaparral, forests and swamps. The Bobcats tail has Black markings only on the top of the tail, where the Lynx tail appears as though the very tip has been dipped in ink. The Bobcat would be far more prevailant in your area.Spotted a feral cat yesterday carrying a dead squirrel in its mouth. Q: Is, what type of cat???
Considering where you live, I'd say it was a Bobcat.
sounds more like a lynx..go to yahoo search and type in lynx ,,,it will direct you to a site where you can see pictures of them..or same with bobcat..both are beautiful creatures,,good luck from a cat lover
