if it's cold enough outside so there's no flies, like below 5*C or 41*F, and you could keep it in a place away from animals, it should be good for another day.How long after i kill a squirrel is is it safe to clean and eat?
gut it, with in an hr, rinse it out, skin it and freeze it,

takes about 1/2 hr
You should definitely get the entrails (guts) out very soon after the kill. Other than that, it's meat.It would be O.K. to leave it in a cool place for a couple of days, but if I was you, I'd clean it now. It only takes a few minutes.
asap...agree with william however i have put them in fridge ,,for a few hours then cleaned then,,
In this area, a squirrel can wait the beter part of a full day before cleaning. this is true in the summer as well as the winter. The key would be the smell of the meat once the entrails are removed. A squirrel that has sat up for a couple of hours after benign shot is stiff from rigor mortis but this does not harm the meat.
30 or 40 minutes tops. About as long as it takes to kill a few of his buddies. I would plan on taking 3 or 4 and then batch-process the whole bunch. If you're just going to take one or two, then okay, dont wait at all, maybe 30 40 minutes tops but you know once the flies get to it and start getting their pupae and larvae all in to it, you're done.
Field clean it-(gut it soon after kill). If the weather is cool, you may have a couple hours. If the weather is warm- you should move on and take care of it.
