are you sure it was not a flying squirrel? they look funny and are nocturnal.

bird feeder anywhere near? flying squirrels are essentially fearless. you take great pictures of them if they are coming to feed. they also make a high one tone call, kinda like a long zeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.
