Has anyone ever heard of the squirrel cages?

=In my teeny town, we have a county fair every year and we have a ride called the squirrel cage and I tried googling for it to see if they have them anywhere else, because I hadn't seen them anywhere else, but I couldn't find much. It's basically a ferris wheel, but instead of a passenger gondola type thing, it's an oval shaped cage and they sort of lock you in and you can flip the cage or lock it upside down, or whatever while it goes around like a ferris wheel. Has anyone ever heard of the squirrel cages?

Could my husband gotten a stomach bug after pressure washing a deck with squirrel/bird droppings/mold?

He never uses any kind of face protection. He's vomiting and has a slight fever. No diarrhea. Just wondering if I should treat this as more than just an average stomach bug.Could my husband gotten a stomach bug after pressure washing a deck with squirrel/bird droppings/mold?
I pressure wash daily and this has never happened to me, but it is certainly possible. The force of the water will splatter debris from what you are cleaning and it could be inhaled - sure, small particles of bird poop and mold, too. I typically only wear a mask (N95) when cleaning asbestos siding. I think it is more of a reaction to the mold spores than the feces and it should flush from his system in a day or so. Obviously, if not, take him to a doctor.Could my husband gotten a stomach bug after pressure washing a deck with squirrel/bird droppings/mold?
Honestly, Its probably nothing more than just the regular Stomach Flu. If it doesn't get better within a few days, take him to the doctor. Tell him I said feel better.
Absolutely.

Can squirrels safely eat avocado seeds?

I live in Michigan and think to offer these, but not if they are poisonous.

If you know for sure, are chopped avocado seeds safe food for humans?

If you are really swift: Do avocado seeds have any medicinal properties or cultural tradition as a medicinal food?SoCal squirrel food help or avocado expert please?
Avocado seeds contain small amounts of persin. Its pretty harmless to humans but can be dangerous for small animals. It probably won't kill them but it could make them sick.

How many fps (Feet Per Second) does it take to kill a bird, squirrel.?

Please include where to shoot the animal.How many fps (Feet Per Second) does it take to kill a bird, squirrel.?
About 600 FPS in .22, 800 in .177 for heart shots on squirrel.

(Head shots are boasting. That brain is about the size of your

little fingernail.)How many fps (Feet Per Second) does it take to kill a bird, squirrel.?
My son picks off rats by the barn with a pellet rifle, I think it is rated for 600 or 800 fps. He is usually about 10-20 feet from them when he hits them. I don't know how fast the speed drops off a pellet, so I don't know exactly what it takes to kill them. If he can hit them, he kills them.

He has killed rabbits in the garden with the same gun, but it is harder. I'd guess squirrel size game, at close range, would be the limit.

BTW - In most states squirrels have seasons, and limits. Most birds are either protected, or have seasons and limits. Make sure the animals you are shooting are legal! Check with you state game commission. They should have a website with the rules.
Squirrels take 3 ft-lbs of impact energy. Birds take 2-3 ft-lbs of impact energy, depending on species. For a .177 air-rifle, you need an impact velocity of 415 fps for squirrels and between 340-415 fps for birds. To get those kinds of impact velocities out to at least 20-30 yards, you need a gun that delivers at least 600-700 fps of muzzle velocity. For a .22 rimfire, any round you'll be using will deliver the needed 3 ft-lbs of impact energy. Ditto for any shotgun round (out to 30 yards or so).

As for where to shoot... With rifles, headshots are the best option. Barring that, aim for the heart-lung cavity. With shotguns, the shot pattern kinda defeats the purpose of precise aiming. Just put the shot pattern on the squirrel.
it really doesn't matter if they are legal as long as you can think up an excuse for how they are being pests. 600 fps is good at 25 yards on squirrels you just gotta hit em in the head or heart. birds are easy with anything from 350 fps and up. all of these are in .17 cal bb gun.
i killed a ruffed grouse with one shot in head w/ daisy bb gun probably 400 altogether i've shot squirrels up the bett which paralized him

  • A squirrel drops an acorn from a tree branch that is 8.0 m from the ground. How long is the acorn in the air?

    What is the acorn's velocity when it reaches the ground?A squirrel drops an acorn from a tree branch that is 8.0 m from the ground. How long is the acorn in the air?
    The equation would be 1/2at^2 + vt - c = 0

    a = 9.81 m/s^2 (acceleration due to gravity)

    v = 0 (initial velocity)

    c = 8 (distance to fall)

    so

    1/2gt^2 = 8

    (9.81 m/s^2) * t^2 = 16

    t^2 = 1.63 sec^2

    t = 1.28 seconds

    Note: Sorry, had to correct the original questionA squirrel drops an acorn from a tree branch that is 8.0 m from the ground. How long is the acorn in the air?
    F=ma

    the only force is the force of gravity, so F=-mg

    -mg=ma

    -g=a, so in other words it accelerates downward at the acceleration due to gravity

    acceleration is the second time derivative of acceleration, so: a = dy^2/dt^2

    dy^2/dt^2 = -g

    Integrating with respect to t, we find:

    dy/dt = -gt + C1, with C1 being equal to the initial velocity, which in this case is 0, so:

    dy/dt = -gt

    Integrating with respect to t, we find:

    y = -1/2gt^2 + C2, with C2 being equal to the initial position, so:

    y = -1/2gt^2 + 8

    assuming g is 9.8m/s^2:

    y = -4.9t^2 + 8

    the ground is at y=0, so the acorn strikes the ground at y=0, so:

    4.9t^2 = 8

    t=1.278s
    someguy's reply is quite scientific although he overlooked one important detail: there could be a strong wind, lkie a hurrican which is actually the reason why the squirrel dropped the acorn, and therefore it could take much much longer before it touches ground...
    acorn=8m. above ground

    acceleration of gravity = 9.8m/s

    8/9.8=0.82 seconds
    18
    ok well. distance is 8m. initial velocity is 0m/s and the acceleration is 9.8m/s^2.

    you have to find the time and the final velocity.

    first, average acceleration is v2-v1/ t

    9.8 = v2 / t

    v2 = 9.8t

    and average velocity * time is equal to the distance

    v2+v1/2 * t = d

    v2/2 * t = 8

    v2 * t = 16(9.8t) * t = 16

    t^2 = 16 / 9.8

    t = sqrt (1.63...)

    t = 1.2777 seconds

    v2 = 9.8 * 1.2777 = 12.52m/s
    the formula used is y=(1/2)gt^2

    y=height, g=acceleration on earth= (9.8m/s^2) , t=time falling

    thus, 8m=(1/2)(9.8m/s^2)(t)^2

    then 8m/ ((1/2)(9.8m/s^2))=t^2

    so 1.63265=t^2

    square root both sides, then t=1.27775
    The acorn is in the air until it hits the ground.

    You're welcome.

    Why is it Illegal to hunt squirrel's with a pellet gun NC?

    Why is it illegal to hunt squirrels in NC with a pellet gun? I mean a 1,000 fps .177 cal pellet gun will do just has good has a .22. Any anti-hunting comments will be flagged.Why is it Illegal to hunt squirrel's with a pellet gun NC?
    A .177 pellet at 1,000fps is about 1/10th as powerful as a 22lr.

    Your air rifle fires a 6gr pellet at 1,000fps and generates around 10 ft-lb of energy max.

    A 22lr on the other hand fires a 40gr bullet at 1,080 fps and produces 104 ft-lb of energy.

    Just because the velocity is the same.. that doesn't mean the power is the same. That's why hunting with small caliber air guns is not legal in many states.Why is it Illegal to hunt squirrel's with a pellet gun NC?
    Do you need the food? If not, why kill them?
    Yes, even 700-800fps guns are drop dead before it hits the ground. Go do it anyway, make sure no one sees you or some stupid thing.
    Is not it?

    I know your wrong.

    Maybe in just one or two county's, but the whole state. No way.

    How long should I BBQ a squirrel for?

    Until its cooked properly the whole way through - depends on how hot your BBQ is. Skin and gut it first.

    A lot of people seem to prefer it fried (also can be done outdoors on a trangia), but if you have an older squirrel they tend to be quite tough so its better to boil it in a stew.How long should I BBQ a squirrel for?
    BTW I feel it necessary to add - Dr Strangelove has a valid point. BBQing squirrel is generally a bad idea. Stewing or frying is the way to go. Bon appetit.

    How long should I BBQ a squirrel for?
    Until it stops moving!
    whole squirrel, probably about 30 minutes but I'd check after 20.
    Best way is to cut it in pieces and fry it like you would chicken. They really come out crispy and it makes the best gravy in the world. NOBODY would BBQ one, you MUST be from the city.
    Follow the timing on recipes for rabbit

    30-45 minutes on the top grate on low heat
    Until the tail catches fire.
    actually squirrel is at its best when used as a milk gravy base, as in biscuits and gravy. so i guess the answer is you dont bbq squirrel. bbq racoon now thats good eating but takes several hours of par boiling before you grill it.
    after gutting , 12 = 2 = 20 minutes turning frequently

    use chili sauce, nice
    best way to cook a squirrel is in a stew, like a veggie type, but fry it in slices with seasoning in a pan first! then add to stew.. 3 or 4 hours on simmer and u got some good shheeet!salt to taste..
    Make sure it is dead first! Then drench it in thick sweet BBQ sauce till nice and crispy, about an hour over med. heat. P.S. Don't ever give the squirrel (LIVER) to any animals to eat because a squirrel liver filters out the arsenic poisons from acorns, and it could kill an animal who eats it. The squirrel is made to eat acorns but other animals are not!

    Best way to kill a squirrel yet keep it in tact?

    A friend and i are planning on doing a skeletal reconstruction of a squirrel for a biology project, but first we need a squirrel. I figured the best way to keep its skeleton in tact yet kill it is to pepper it with a shotgun from a distance or if worst comes to worst try using a pellet gun. any suggestions???Best way to kill a squirrel yet keep it in tact?
    Live trap and then drown it

    Or sometimes the squirrel will just die of stress once it is trapped

    I have seen squirrel die of heart attacks when the door closes

    A shot gun is also a good way with small enough shot

    I don't know where people get the idea that it will blow the animal apart

    There will be some danger of broken bones though but then you just leave the pellets in the bones for effect

    What method are you planning on using to strip the meat

    I am using meal worms but first you have top skin it

    If not you gat a bundle of fur and bones that are intertwined and can be difficult to separate

    I'm planning on making an L shaped plaque

    putting the skeleton on the floor of the plaque and the skin on the back

    Right now I have four foxes, two coons and a possum in the worksBest way to kill a squirrel yet keep it in tact?
    use a .22 rifle u can kill it instantly and you won't have a nut where the squirrel was standing like with a shotgun. you never finish your project with a shotgun unless you project was about what happens when shotgun meets squirrel.
    Try trapping it, and then once you got one, cut it's throat, that'll kill it quickly, and there will be no damage to the sceleton.
    Pellet gun or shotgun is your answer. Traping is a good answer, road kill is not.
    wait for the squirrel to come out of the bar then blackjack him across the back of his head then throw him in a bag and your on your way.
    if i wore u i would eighter trap it with a snare or use a pelet gun

    i hunted squirll with a shot gun (20 gauge). there was nothing left so dont use that.

  • Who would win a fight between a rat and a squirrel?

    I was decorating a flat in London a few weeks ago and i looked out the window and saw a rat and a squirrel in someones back yard. the rat was just passing through but it got me wondering . . . who would win the fight?Who would win a fight between a rat and a squirrel?
    I'll go for the squirrel. Having the ability to climb gives it an advantage. Also it could throw stuff down at the rat and shout abuse at it until the rat looses it's sanity. Then it can run down and beat the crap out of his weakened target. ;)Who would win a fight between a rat and a squirrel?
    The squirrel would, rats are horrible vicious animals but a squirrel has more power behind it more then any wild rat. Squirrels are also naturally vicious if attacked and with its powerful back legs the rats would be dead within a few minutes but them fighting is rare, the rat would run before it was even spotted by the squirrel. Rats are scavengers, they eat dead animals, they have not the power to kill anything bigger then a domesticated rodent smaller then it.
    I would say the rat. Rats are omnivores making them part carnivorous. And if you鈥檙e a carnivore, half or full, you need predatory skills. And if you have predatory skills you need to have intelligence. Rats are highly intelligent giving them very good predatory skills. And I'm sure that some rat prey doesn't go down without a fight. And we cannot forget about the idea of territory fights between rats which can result in death. Giving a rat some combat skills. Rats also have good speed to help escape predators, but I don鈥檛 think they can match the squirrel. Rats also have skills in the defense part because they have mean predators that like rat snacks. So with the intelligence, predatory skills, defense skills, speed and possibly combat skills on its side a rat would most likely win. For squirrels, they are herbivores. Having a diet of mostly nuts, this doesn鈥檛 require much intelligence. And having the climbing skills gives them the advantage of escape. But squirrels can also be territorial so some have had a fight or two in their day. Giving them some combat skills, but not much. Because their territory fights are often just chasing. Squirrels have the motto ';Fight or Flight';, mostly resulting in flight, so squirrels have to have some sort of speed. Unlike rats which will choose fight over flight any day, they are a tough bunch. But both have aggression when needed so that is a big part of it to. Size also matters, but I'm pretty sure rats and squirrels are almost alike in the size department. All in all it would be a close match. But the rat has the slighter advantage. And keep in mind that these are wild animals, so don鈥檛 judge the domestic ones.
    If your'e referring to a wild rat (which I'm assuming you are), then it would definitely be the rat. I've encountered them before, and although both are wild animals, rats are absolutely vicious. (Complete 180 from domesticated ones.)
    I would say the rat without doubt, it is a vicious omnivore against the nut eating squirrel, it is also more adept at defending itself against predators.
    I would say the rat...

    They tend to be more vicious and carnivorous. Also, they usually come in greater numbers.
    Well maybe the rat, if the squirrel messed with him the rat would get his boys and they would gnaw his feet off!!
    Lol um...The Squirrel has that speed and can call for back up....the rat is alot smarter....No offence to all you squirrel lovers :)....Why can't they just be one big happy family?!?!.....(Squirrel)....LOL.
    Depends on the size of the rat.

    But if it's ';average'; -- Squirrel.

    Probably the rat unless the squirrel had a flick knife :-)
    id say the rat, it would probably call for reinforcements
    Rats just seem a bit meaner, so I would bet on a rat.
    I'd say rat because it's more vicious and would call for it's buddies help.
    Squirrel all day long
    The squirrel would bite the rats nuts off I reckon!!
    squirrel! squirels have huge claws and move to quicklly!
    i would say a squirrel

    You can by with some cheap stuff, like the low-end Crosmans, but basically you get exactly what you pay for in an air rifle -- as in most things.

    It's a question of whether you want to invest 150-200 bucks, or more, for a truly fine airgun, not Asian-made, with a rifled barrel, consistent performance and powerful shots, that will last you the rest of your life, or whether you want to get disappointed regularly trying to hunt with something just above the old Red Ryder BB gun-level quality.those were fine for plinking at cans in the back yard, but not much more, and were quickly discarded when we got our first ';real'; guns, usually a .22.

    My recommendation -- if you're thinking in the 50-60 dollar range, hoping for a deal, save up a few more bucks and look for an American or European brand (that you've heard of) to go on sale. The more you can scrape up, the happier you will be.

    Describe how a squirrel cage motor is different from a motor with slip rings?

    Squirrel cage motor different from a motor with slip rings?Describe how a squirrel cage motor is different from a motor with slip rings?
    All electrical motors are basically, the result of two magnetic pole chasing each other....ssomewhat like a dog chasing its tail...never catching up.

    There are several poles in a motor, depending on the winding, or permanent magnets imbedded.

    The motor has a set or system of magnet/coils in the ';outer housing'; which is called the field. Another, different set is in the rotor(armature..which spins)

    The magnetism in the rotor is affected by the magnetism in the field which causes the rotation by the repelling/attracting action of the two magnetic field....and never catching each other.

    To create the magnet/magnetic fields in motors..there are several ways.

    ..A squirrel cage motor , has a rotor that has no wiring connection to it.

    The rotor of the squirrel cage, is made such that when it rotates ina magnetic field, it generates an internal electrical current, to flow in a manner to create a magnetic field...therefore no wiring to the external power source. The magnetic field to activate the rotor comes from the coils which are in the motor housing or the field circuit. Therefore the housing's coils has to have a wiring to the power source.

    In a slip ring motor..... the rotor has coils wound in it, which terminates as wire ends. These wire ends has to make contact with the external power supply while the rotor is spinning. Therefore at one end of the motor , there are rings attached to the wire ends, and a contact brush(electrical) which allows electricity to pass while the ring rotates.

    A slip ring motor, therefore generates the rotor's magnetic field from coils within the rotor that is externally fed with power.

    The field of the slip ring motor can be either coils to create the magnetic field, or permanent magnets imbedded in the housing.

    The basic difference between the two motors is that sq. cage has no coils in the rotor.....slip rings has a rotor with coils.

    The characteristic/power of the two are very different for equivalent design.

  • What's the best way to cook a squirrel?

    Season the meat with salt, pepper and garlic powder then dust lightly with flour and brown well over medium heat, add chopped onions to pan and brown then cover with water and simmer until tender. It makes a beautiful dark brown gravy that's good over rice or homemade cream potatoes.What's the best way to cook a squirrel?
    Deep Fried!!! No it doesn't taste like chicken.What's the best way to cook a squirrel?
    donna c has the right answer but being from the mountains of WVa..you have to have squirrel gravy and biscuits...no way else...
    soak your squirrels in salt water overnight to get out the wild taste. Drain them, roll in seasoned flour and fry like chicken. Make a gravy with the pan drippings. Serve with mashed potatoes or other veggies of your choice.
    INGREDIENTS:

    2 squirrels - skinned, gutted, and cut into pieces

    4 large potatoes, quartered

    1 pound carrots, chopped

    1 green bell pepper, chopped

    4 onions, sliced

    2 cups water

    1/4 medium head cabbage

    1 teaspoon salt

    1 teaspoon ground black pepper

    --------------------------------------鈥?br>

    DIRECTIONS:

    In a slow cooker, place the squirrel meat, potatoes, carrots, green bell pepper, onions, water, cabbage, salt and ground black pepper.

    Cover and cook on low setting for 8 hours.
    ok i have a old recipewhich is junior league..

    3 cans of tomatoes 17 squirrels

    2 onions chopped

    2 heads of garlic chopped

    4 stalks of celery

    2 bell peppers chopped cooking oil

    4 tbls flour salt and pepper to taste

    cut up meat like cutting up chicken ..salt and pepper brown meat ..then brown vegatables..

    remove all from pan make your roux in a large pot with oil about 4 tbls to 4 tbls flour.whisk until smooth should be thinner than paste if not add a knob of butter..then add tomato sauce

    then add a can of water all the veggies and the squirrel.simmer on low until the squirrel is tender and the sauce around it has thickened adding water when needed only to keep it from sticking..(also squirrel is kinda grease if cooked any other way) Serve over rice..
    Lemon pepper squirrel is the best!! Just don't forget to tenderize the meat first! Rawhide mallets work the best. :)
    Dredge in seasoned flour and fry like chicken.
    barf
    meaney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    not to at all
    Why do you need to cook it?
    thats sick!
    slowly with a lot of grease
    once the meat is cleaned..

    coat in a mixture of 1/2 corn meal and 1/2 flour....mix enough for the amount of meat you have....you can also add some garlic salt, and pepper to this if you want...the fry like chicken.

    another thing to try...take the meat the de-bone it...place in a slow cooker with some cream of mushroom soup and and like a 1/4 cup of sour cream. Cook on low heat until meat is done. You can serve over white rice or pasta. also good over mashed potatoes.

    Bite from a squirrel with hind legs paralized?

    I'm just curious as to what I should be worried about. Could the squirrel have rabies or something serious like that? What would be the immediate symptoms?Bite from a squirrel with hind legs paralized?
    the odds of a squirrel having rabies is about 1 in 10,000,000

    the reason being small animals like rodents do not survive bites by infected animals

    if it's back end is paralyzed, he's probably in alot of pain, and that's why he bit you

    since he is a wild animal though, i would go through with what someone mentioned, try to capture the animal and take it to a vet or someplace that can test it to see if it has any kind of diseases or something like that, just to be sure it doesnt transmit anything to youBite from a squirrel with hind legs paralized?
    Absolutely. Squirrels are non-aggressive animals to begin with so a bite is an indicator of something wrong; but an animal that is both aggressive and dragging hind quarters is showing signs of end-stage rabies. If you're able to capture the squirrel in a have-a-heart trap (peanut butter should do the trick) and carefully take him in to be tested to determine its condition, do so immediately. If not, assume the worst and get the shots...it's not something to play around with.
    it would probally be better to be safe than sorry. I would catch the squirrel and then go from there just to be safe.
    Rabies symptoms don't show up for quite a while after being bitten and infected.

    Go to your doctor tomorrow, and get tested. It's better to catch it now before it's too late!

    What can I do if I see a squirrel get run over?

    I was a few yards away and I saw it running to make it across the street. It didnt quite make it and its legs were crushed under a bus. It lay still in the street while all I could do is cry. I didn't know what to do. Do I go over there? I was afraid the sight would send me into a severe panic attack (which I get alot). I didnt know if I should pick it up or what! I cried hysterically cuz I'm really sensitive about animals

    another car came and it looked like it ran over its tail just as it looked as if the squirrel was trying to move. It jumped and flipped around then fell flat again as though it were unconscious. I was hating myself for not knowing what to do. Then it woke up again and flipped around and it's tail and leg was a mangled mess. It hopped and flipped and made strange noises and went under a parked car then it disappeard.

    This is haunting me, I pride myself on always being a hero, but here I didnt know what to do.

    Someone please advise.What can I do if I see a squirrel get run over?
    Not much you could have done. Once an animal loses it's legs it's pretty much done for anyway and had you rescued it and brought it to the vet he probably would have recommended putting it to sleep to end it's pain. I read this article about squirrels (has some neat facts) on fox news' web site. It says approximately 80% of squirrels are killed by cars, not old age or anything.

    http://www.foxnews.com/wires/2006Dec11/0鈥?/a>What can I do if I see a squirrel get run over?
    Wild Animals do carry Diseases and the only thing you could do was say a prayer and move on.Nothing you could do it might have eatten you up if you tried rescue.S.....Happens sometimes and our hands are tied.It was it's Time to go!God knows our every thought !
    What you witnessed was a fact of life and death i`m sad to say,but you must give thanks it was not a child.You could not have helped the poor animal in any way.In your life you may see similar small tragedy's and you may or may not be able to help but maybe one time you can so just think about the help for animals ,that you as a caring person can assist and care about.
    I, too, love animals and am saddened when I see one injured or killed. While it is easy to rescue some animals, like a bird with a broken wing, it is much harder, emotionally, to deal with an animal that is in such pain as that poor squirrel.

    The first thing you need to do is stop beating yourself up for not doing anything. You did not go out today thinking, ';I must be strong, and I must be ready to help an animal in distress.'; This incident took you by surprise, and you were understandably shook up.

    Also, because it was not something you could be prepared for, you probably had no safe way to capture the animal and transport him to help. You would have been bitten. Any animal, even a beloved pet, will bite when in extreme pain and fear. Trying to handle a wild animal in that condition would have put you at unnecessary risk for injury.

    Say a little prayer for the squirrel, that he passed out and did not feel any more pain, and that he died quickly. And go on, knowing that there was nothing you could have done for him.

    What is the best way to save a squirrel tail?

    Ive seen people with them but like i could see some meat on the tail ive thought about boiling would that work and ive hear salt but idk What is the best way to save a squirrel tail?
    No don't boil it-that would make all the fur fall off. Put it in a dry warm environment-rub salt into it as best you can. It will dry out and be very stiff as there will still be some tissue which has become dessicated but the fur should stay on if you don't allow it to become damp when rot will set in.What is the best way to save a squirrel tail?

    Has anyone ever fed Adderall to a squirrel?

    I spilled a bottle of my generic Adderall accidentally and a squirrel snatched one from the ground and ate it. I didn't get a chance to stick around to see what happened to it. Does anyone know what will happen to them after they ate a human dose of this medicine?Has anyone ever fed Adderall to a squirrel?
    well, that squirrel will have a spiritual awakening or a quickening and become the leader of the squirrels. it'll be kinda like fight club, except for rodents.Has anyone ever fed Adderall to a squirrel?
    I wouldn't be surprised if it killed the squirrel. I've taken Adderall myself, and I found that it increased my heartrate and made me nervous and irritable. Since stimulants increased the heartrate, I kind of wonder if it made the squirrel have a heart attack or stroke.
    A seagull ate my brothers adderall once. He kept it near him by giving it bread for like an hour, but he said nothing seemed to happen to the bird. Maybe it doesn't affect animals?
    I've taken that stuff, and yeah, I'm going with the squirrel probably exploded minutes later.

    How do I make a flying squirrel cage for my pet squirrel?

    What are the materials i need? What do I have to put in the cage? How do i put it together? HELP!!How do I make a flying squirrel cage for my pet squirrel?
    For housing, the minimum size wire habitat for one Flying Squirrel should be 18'; x 18'; x 24'; tall with a wire spacing maximum of 1/2.'; Bigger and taller is better. A nest box measuring 5'; x 5'; x 5'; with a removable or hinged top, should be provided to give it a dark place to sleep. A wren box does well. The nest box should be furnished with cotton, wood shavings (NOT cedar), or grass hay for bedding.

    The cage should have a cuttlebone or calcium block, brown salt/mineral spool, mineral block (an excellent source is Hagen Mineral Beak Block which comes in the shape of an acorn), water bottle, running wheel, some perches are needed, tree branches are best for climbing and gnawing.

    (Cleaning logs, branches and wooden items: Soak in 1/2 tsp. dawn added to 1/2 cup bleach and 5 gal. hot water. Then rinse under water for 5 minutes and let them air dry outside.)

    More nest boxes than squirrels. One nest box up at the top of the cage and one at the bottom. A couple of shelves or places to sit at different levels is a good idea, also. Any natural fiber rope makes a good toy as does a dry corn cob. Sweat shirt sleeves hung up or some toddler size bib overalls seem to be liked.

    I once saved a squirrel in march 2009. a cat had it in its mouth and i rushed over to the cat and pulled the baby squirrel out of the cats mouth. My neighbor was a vet and was taking care of it for me but 2 days later it died from the cats bite, and ever since i really have been interested in squirrels so where can i get one?Where can I get a pet baby squirrel in indiana?
    You don't keep squirrels as pets.Where can I get a pet baby squirrel in indiana?
    Squirrels are wild animals and in most states, you are prohibited from keeping a wild animal as a pet UNLESS you have a special license issued by either your states Department of Environmental Conservation or it might be your states Department of wild life conservation... Vets have the right to treat injured wild animals and SOME have the right to harbor them but MOST have to give the animal up to a wild life rescue center after the animal is healed...where the rescue center prepares the animal to be put back into the wild if at all possible.
    Try a humane society.. squirrels arnt kept as pets but if they need medical attention or if they need to be cared for by humans for what ever reason and cant be released back into the wild because of human interaction they usually put them in humane societies...

    Sorry, I don't know where you can get one, but flying squirrels are neat pets, I used to raise them. You do know that they are 100% nocturnal and don't do good in the light. Most people want to play with them in the daylight, and they don't like that.

    I had a pet squirrel one time. If you plan on taking care of it you are going to need puppy formula, and a small enough bottle tip for it. If not GET IT TO A VET OR WILDLIFE ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER ASAP.

    E-mail me i can give you a list of them in your area, or you can give me a call and i can help you out as far as it goes taking care of it. Youre interaction with it as a baby won't matter much. Make sure it is warm, and you feed it every two hours. You need to get food into its system asap.
    Wrap it is a warm cloth that has been in the dryer and hold it against your chest,under your shirt,so it can warm up.Get some Pedialyte and warm it,and give the squirrel a few drops every 15 minutes to re-hydrate it. Do not feed it any formula ( you would use Esbilac for puppies) until it is warm,as it will not be able to digest it.Call your local vets and division of wildlife and they can tell you who to take it to.But please don't just let it lay there and die.

    you have to use a cotton ball or very soft cloth and a little warm water to dampen it down and rub his little private area, kind of simulating the mother licking and cleaning him, it will help him go to the bathroom, some friends of mine cut a squirrel nest down timbering a few years back and i ended up being nominated to raise the babies till they were big enough to survive on their own.
    Well seeing as most people don't have pet squirrels, we're probably not going to be much help. I'd be asking a vet this question.

    Possibly because he's a wild animal....
    Yes because he is a wild animal. He deserves to be a wild animal. Please find a Wildlife Rehabilitator in your area who can take him. You can get a list from your local Dept. of Environmental Conservation.

    At some point, he will bite, and he will bite hard. Squirrel bites are nothing to mess with. Think about it, they get into nuts with those teeth.

    Also, I don't know where you live, but in most states it is illegal to keep a wild animal without a permit.
    The closer he gets to sexual maturity the harder he is going to bite and the harder her is going to ';play';.

    He is a wild animals and no amount of handling him is going to change that fact. You are just going to have to learn to read him better and know when he is getting to the point where he is going to get too excited. I would suggest that if you are keeping this animal for the rest of his life then you need to seek out a vet that has special knowledge of exotics and have him neutered. This will not fix the problem as it really isn't a problem other than nature asserting itself but it will help to lessen his sexual frustration.

    Good Luck t you. Keeping a squirrel in a domestic setting is VERY difficult. I pray that you have done your research and are feeding and housing him properly. If you are just feeding him a ton of nuts because he likes them and that is what you saw on a Disney movie... he is going to die at a VERY young age. These animals are HARD work.

    Is it possible to milk a squirrel?

    With rising food costs and higher demands, I've had to find other avenues for food. Mother nature has provided a bounty. I've planted a vegetable garden, I can hunt my own meat, and I can find eggs in various nests.

    The one staple I can't seem to easily obtain is milk. There are no cows or goats nearby, in fact about all the wildlife I see are birds and squirrels. If squirrels can't be milked, can you suggest an alternative source?Is it possible to milk a squirrel?
    You can milk me anytime Joe. :)Is it possible to milk a squirrel?
    Yes but be careful of your technique and be patient. The last time I tried to milk a squirrel I had just caught it stealing one of my daffodil bulbs and unfortunately when I squeezed it, more squirrel came out than milk.
    I'd pay to see that!! lol

    I think you'd find it a lot easier to get yourself a goat and milk that, though.
    Are you gonna impregnate that squirrel? LMAO
    I am pretty sure you can milk anything with nipples. Whether or not it's a good idea, is another story.
    Yes. I have been milking possums for years, and I believe the technique can be expanded to squirrels. I have found that domesticating the creatures works the best. Possum milk has a ';gamey'; flavor, but nothing that a little sugar in the cereal won't cover.

    I sell whatever excess I glean to an Elementary nearby, and apparently the kids have taken a real shine to it. I am going to market my ';possum gouda'; cheese starting soon.
    Any female mammal which is nursing young produces milk, and can therefore theoretically be milked. You wouldn't get much milk from a squirrel, though, and besides, how would you go about putting a milking machine on tiny little squirrel baps?

    Why not try dog's milk? Full of goodness, full of marrowbone jelly. Lasts longer than any other kind of milk, dog's milk. Why? No bugger'll drink it. (Thank you, Red Dwarf!).
    lmao

    hahahah

    evil mothers,.,.,

    after you dun invite the pore bugger back to the pad for a drink

    maybe a wight Russian
    Any mammal can be milked including squirrels, but it's gonna take a lot of effort on your part to get enough for your morning cereal. first, the squirrel must have just given birth and then you do have those little squirrel runts to take care of. Then the amount is minimal and you never know what's gonna happen when you play with momma squirrel hooters.
    O yeah you can milk anything with nipples...anything execpt robert de niro of course!
    umm... make soy milk... haha.

    Soy milk is good for protein.
    You have to get your own cow or goat if there are none nearby. No wild animal will give you enough milk to make any difference. You don't really need milk, anyway. This just seems like an idle question that you don't really need an answer to.
    Well, if you evolve the squirrel to be big and docile enough to produce milk. SURE.

    Look at the domesticated banana! We have to give thanks to those banana farmers in S.America. :D Some people, Way of the Master, claim that those banana farmers are God.
    Don't know nothin' 'bout milkin' no squirrels, but down here in Jawja, we'ze likes to grill our squirrels. Tastes like chicken, and goes mighty fine with a fixin' of possum pie!
    Find a wet nurse. ; )

    Human milk has got to be better for you than rodent milk.

    And the feeding process might be more enjoyable for you.

    How long after i kill a squirrel is is it safe to clean and eat?

    i just shot a squirrel and want to wait til later to clean it. how much time do i have after its been killed to eat it before it goes bad.How long after i kill a squirrel is is it safe to clean and eat?
    if it's cold enough outside so there's no flies, like below 5*C or 41*F, and you could keep it in a place away from animals, it should be good for another day.How long after i kill a squirrel is is it safe to clean and eat?
    gut it, with in an hr, rinse it out, skin it and freeze it,

    takes about 1/2 hr
    You should definitely get the entrails (guts) out very soon after the kill. Other than that, it's meat.It would be O.K. to leave it in a cool place for a couple of days, but if I was you, I'd clean it now. It only takes a few minutes.
    asap...agree with william however i have put them in fridge ,,for a few hours then cleaned then,,
    In this area, a squirrel can wait the beter part of a full day before cleaning. this is true in the summer as well as the winter. The key would be the smell of the meat once the entrails are removed. A squirrel that has sat up for a couple of hours after benign shot is stiff from rigor mortis but this does not harm the meat.
    30 or 40 minutes tops. About as long as it takes to kill a few of his buddies. I would plan on taking 3 or 4 and then batch-process the whole bunch. If you're just going to take one or two, then okay, dont wait at all, maybe 30 40 minutes tops but you know once the flies get to it and start getting their pupae and larvae all in to it, you're done.
    Field clean it-(gut it soon after kill). If the weather is cool, you may have a couple hours. If the weather is warm- you should move on and take care of it.
